چکیده

We report a new multinuclei based nuclear magnetic resonance method which allows us to image the staggered polarization induced by nonmagnetic Li impurities in underdoped sO6.6d and slightly overdoped sO7d YBa2Cu3O6+y above TC. The spatial extension of the polarization jimp approximately follows a Curie law, increasing up to six lattice constants at 80 K at O6.6 in the pseudogap regime. Near optimal doping, the staggered magnetization has the same shape, with jimp reduced by a factor 2. jimp is argued to reveal the intrinsic magnetic correlation length of the pure system. It is found to display a smooth evolution through the pseudogap regime.

States of local moment induced by nonmagnetic impurities in cuprate superconductors.

By using a model Hamiltonian with d-wave superconductivity and competing antiferromagnetic (AF) orders, the local staggered magnetization distribution due to nonmagnetic impurities in cuprate superconductors is investigated. We show that the net moment induced by a single impurity corresponds to a local spin with S(z)=0 or 1/2 depending on the strength of the AF interaction U and the impurity s...

Singular current response from isolated impurities in d-wave superconductors.

The current response of a d-wave superconductor containing a single impurity is calculated and shown to be singular in the low-temperature limit, leading in the case of strong scattering to a 1/T term in the penetration depth lambda(T) similar to that induced by Andreev surface bound states. For a small number of such impurities, we argue this low-T upturn could be observable in cuprate superco...

Anomalous Temperature Dependence of Spin Susceptibility around a Nonmagnetic Impurity in High-Tc Cuprate Superconductors

Local magnetic properties around a nonmagnetic impurity are investigated in high-Tc cuprate superconductors. We consider a model two-dimensional dx2−y2-wave superconductor with strong antiferromagnetic (AF) spin fluctuations and calculate the spin susceptibility around the impurity. We show that the uniform susceptibility (χ(0)), which is usually suppressed in spin-singlet superconductivity, is...

85 v 5 2 2 O ct 2 00 6 Theory of quantum impurities in spin liquids

We describe spin correlations in the vicinity of a generalized impurity in a wide class of fractionalized spin liquid states. We argue that the primary characterization of the impurity is its electric charge under the gauge field describing singlet excitations in the spin liquid. We focus on two gapless U(1) spin liquids described by 2+1 dimensional conformal field theories (CFT): the staggered...

Dopant-modulated pair interaction in cuprate superconductors.

A comparison of recent experimental STM data with single-impurity and many-impurity Bogoliubov-de Gennes calculations strongly suggests that random out-of-plane dopant atoms in cuprates modulate the pair interaction locally. This type of disorder is crucial to understanding the nanoscale electronic inhomogeneity observed in BSCCO-2212, and can reproduce observed correlations between the positio...
